Sonar Deep Research is the research model of Perplexity's Sonar API, first listed in the API docs in late February 2025 and offered only through the API. Perplexity's docs say it runs dozens of searches over hundreds of sources and turns the findings into detailed reports; a reasoning_effort setting and an asynchronous API followed in May 2025.
