Microsoft, founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen and based in Redmond, Washington, describes itself as a technology company that builds AI-powered platforms and tools. Microsoft Research developed the Phi small language models, released as open models under the MIT License, and the Microsoft AI organization, formed in 2024, develops the MAI model family. Known as Micro-Soft.
