o4-mini is a smaller reasoning model in OpenAI's o-series for text and image input, released with o3 on 16 April 2025 in ChatGPT and the API. OpenAI describes it as optimised for fast, cost-efficient reasoning; like o3 it can use ChatGPT's tools and work with images in its chain of thought, and it replaced o3-mini in ChatGPT.
